Gratitude

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
Psalm 100:4

While reading various blogs I came across Ann Voskamp's Holy Experience.  I was immediately intrigued by her post, but more intrigued by what she calls the "gratitude community."  I began reading, but was interrupted by the sweet sound of my baby boy crying in his crib.  Okay, so it wasn't a sweet sound, but I am writing about gratitude so I thought I would try to view his crying as sweet.  After you read Ann's blog you too will, more than likely, feel the need to view more things as sweet.

I have so much to be thankful for and am frequently reminded that the LORD has richly blessed me in more ways than I deserve.  However, if I have a bad day it is easy to complain or be upset that things have not gone my way.  In the midst of a storm my husband will often ask me what I am thankful for.  Sometimes, his question annoys me.  Why?  Because, often times, it is easier to be annoyed, or frustrated, or angry.  Despite my fleshly desire to be annoyed my spirit desires to rejoice in all things (Phil. 4:4).  Therefore, I am glad I have people in my life to ask me what I am thankful for in the midst of a storm.  I am glad I have the Holy Spirit living in me to intercede for me during times of struggle (Rom. 8:27).

I write all of this to say that I think Ann's gratitude community idea is excellent.  Writing down daily blessings with a goal of reaching 1000 will keep me focused on the positive aspects of every day life.  I hope to share my blessings with the blog world every Monday.

This post makes me happy! - to know that you are choosing gratitude as a way of life - i think you know what a huge impact I think the discipline of gratitude has made in my life over the years. Back in the old days before electronic media, I kept my gratitude lists in my journals and during one or two challenging seasons posted my thank you's on a large paper on the living room wall. I'd like to do the Multitude Monday/One Thousand gifts, too.

Amber, I really like the design element of picture links to other blog posts that you added to your blog. I've been wanting to link to past posts in an engaging way on my blog...thanks for showing it to me. :-) Did you find the instructions within blogspot or is it an imported program?
