Levi: 5 and 6 months

Our precious boy is 6 months old and I am so thankful he has reached this milestone.  Life is more predictable.  He is happier and much more settled than he was the first 5 months.  (I wrote this in April and forgot to post it.  Now it is time to share his 7 month post)

Month 4 to 5 were as rough, if not worse, as the first few months.  I honestly do not have a lot to say about it except I am glad it's over.  Most nights we spent at least 2-3 hours awake.  We had a week of traveling thrown in there that overall went well minus night time sleep.  I continued to breastfeed with formula supplements as needed.

Month 5 to 6 has brought us much joy.  I just love 6 months!  Love. Love. Love It.  The smiles, the giggles, the coos, the stinky neck, the kissable chubby cheeks and thighs, the intentional grabbing of objects, the more predictable sleep patterns, and their excitement when they see you.

Currently, he goes to bed between 7-8 p.m.  He wakes 1-2 times during the night.  If he wakes up prior to 1 a.m. he will go back to sleep when we put his boppy (pacifier) in.  If later, we give him a bottle and most of the time he will go back to sleep easily.  I still have to change his diaper at night or he pees out :(  He typically wakes between 6:30-7 a.m.  He take 2-3 naps each day and they average 45 minutes to 2 hours.  Some days he sleeps longer in the morning and some days the afternoon.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of days I have to wake him up to go pick up one of the older kids.

I stopped breastfeeding a few weeks ago, so he is drinking formula 4 times a day and eating solids 2 times per day.  He has tried rice cereal (which he does not like), oatmeal cereal, avocado (which causes him to gag), peas (which also causes him to gag), banana, apple, green beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, and pears.  He is still taking Prevacid.

He began rolling from back to stomach this month.  On his stomach he can push up to full elbow extension with head at 90 degrees.  He still does not enjoy attempted sitting, so we have not practiced it a lot.

He enjoys bath time, particularly raising his arm overhead and dropping it into the water to create a splash.  He also smiles and laughs a lot while in the bath with Zoe.

He enjoys playing on his play mat.  His favorite toys are:
  • owl and horse that hang on his play mat
  • a wooden rattle with his name engraved (given to him by my friend Hannah)
  • Geo- a wooden toy made by Manhattan company (a toy that both B and Z loved as babies)
  • Sophie (teething giraffe given to us by my friend Heidi)
  • Crazy Eyes- a orange plastic bug with different colored legs (also one of B and Z's favorites)
  • Take-Along Tunes (also one of B and Z's favorites)
  • Green Dinosaur Lovie
He no longer cries in the car unless he is exhausted or has a dirty diaper.  Now, he will actually calm down when we start driving and has fallen asleep once in the car without assistance.

He is still easily over stimulated, but much better than a few months ago.  Once over stimulated daddy can calm him better than me (because I am typically over stimulated too).

He is super ticklish.

He enjoys peek a boo.

He watches almost every move Zoe makes and loves when she climbs in the crib to greet him in the morning.

He wears size 3 diapers.  He can still wear some 6 month clothing, but mostly 9 months.

Levi,

I love to kiss your chubby cheeks and pinch your chubby thighs.  I love the way you watch your brother and sister and how you now turn onto your belly to see what they are doing.  You are a wonderful addition to our family and I look forward to watching your personality develop.  I pray you grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.  I pray God develops in you a generous and compassionate spirit.  I pray you always know you are loved by the Creator of the universe and when we let you down you, He never will.

Love,

Mommy

Love this sweet post! So thankful that he is doing better and is getting to be at that really fun, enjoyable baby age! I enjoy older babies as well. I just do better with more predictable sleep patterns. The baby smiles and laughs are great!
