My sister and her family came to visit in early October. Their last night here we headed out for a photo shoot before dinner. Unfortunately, we had about 30 minutes before it started to rain. However, I was able to capture a few.
I am continuing to struggle with White Balance which is very frustrating, especially since I keep reading and practicing and reading and practicing. I am also working hard to nail focus, which sometimes is easy and sometimes is sooooo difficult.
My nephew is hilarious! He is just like me when I was younger......FAKE SMILE, unless you make him LAUGH. It is hard to make him LAUGH when the camera is around. He just freezes up. The photo below best captures his real smile.
I am looking forward to spending a week with this little guy, my sister, and brother in law during Thanksgiving.

Great family photos. You did a great job.
Fake smile or not, these are great shots. Just lovely.
Great job on the portraits! I love the black and white one. And that's cutest fake smile I've seen!
They look like asuch a lovely family together there Amber and your sister is so much like you too.
I'm using degrees of kelvin now for my white balance and still learning how to judge the colour of light and I frequently change kelvin as the light changes.
great job!!!! and i think you did well with all your "problem" areas
You got some really GREAT shots. What a cute little guy ;D
These are fantastic...I find that with family, I never have much time to work with, but you did great. I struggle with white balance too. I haven't taken the leap into manually setting that. I keep working on focus and I'll move on to white balance next year I think.
great job :) love the black and white picture..
These are great!! Love his smile!
What a beautiful family and cute little guy! I really like that shot of them sitting down.
that bw shot is fabulous! gorgeous, Amber!
These are beautiful!!! The second one's my favorite.
you got some nice ones - I think getting the depth of field for a group shot just right is super difficult. photographing one is (relatively) easy - it gets more difficult with each person you add. White balance can be such a pain - I want to learn to shoot in RAW this year since I've heard that white balance is easier to change if you shoot in RAW - I also use custom white balances and warming cards but I'd like to try to learn to use Kelvin - that seems like a really accurate way to set your light balance.
That black and white one is just perfect, but I love them all! Your nephew is soooo cute!
I struggle with white balance as well. I just haven't had the time to sit down and really learn. Plus I desperately need to get my screen calibrated, because I know my photos look different on other computers (I had the hubs test a couple at work, lol). To me that is one of the hardest parts of digital imaging... it isn't like showing someone a printed photo where you know they see it the same!
