Pre-Toddler Activity #7: Muffin Pan Surprise

B was sick last week, so we spent a lot more time in the house.  Therefore, I had to get creative with our play time.  I decided to have a little fun with a muffin pan.

What you need:
  • Muffin Pan
  • Various objects to place inside each muffin tin
  • Tape
  • Lids from travel coffee mugs and/or water bottles
Objects included: Beaded Necklace, Magnets, Retractable Measuring Tape, Coins, Bow Tie, Cookies, Ball, Outlet Cover, Cotton, Block, Buttons, and Goldfish
What to do:
  • Fill each muffin tin with random objects from around your house.
  • Tape over individual tins or cover with travel mug lid
  • Allow your child to uncover and explore each tin

I would recommend including a few snacks.  Cookies are a rare treat for B, so he was very excited when he uncovered two small cookies and a tin of Goldfish.

Tip #4: Children will be more likely to play with a toy over and over again if it is not within their line of sight on a day to day basis.  Put toys away and pull them out after a few days or weeks.

This is a great idea! Are you sure you didn't miss your calling as a child life specialist? :)

Great photos, as always.

I've used three of your photos of church buildings in a recent post on my other blog (for Bible Study and ministry stuff). It is here: http://warrenbaldwinbiblefountain.blogspot.com/2011/08/six-leadership-functions-for.html

Thanks.

Such a great idea! We use muffin tins for activities all the time, so this is a great way to change it up! :)

I have been searching the internet for busy bag ideas for a couple weeks now. This is the first time I've seen any activity ideas that are actually developmentally appropriate for my daughter (17 months). THANK YOU so much! I look forward to hearing any other ideas you share in the future!

I did this for my son today, he loved it! It didn't take him long to rip them all open, lol. I thought I was going to laugh myself silly when the tape stuck to his hand.
