You're Still The One

It's been 3 years since I walked down the aisle and vowed to love Sam for the rest of my life.  Three years since I stood before God Almighty and promised to love him, cherish him, honor him, and care for him all the days of my life.  It has been 3 years full of change, joy, frustration, LAUGHter, arguments, make-ups, growth, forgiveness, love, vulnerability, and friendship.

As I wrote last year, Sam is a man of integrity.  A man who loves the Lord.  A man who loves his family.  A man who, when passionate about something, works harder than any person I know to achieve/conquer it.  I could go on and on sharing the good things about my husband.  Yes, like everyone, we have our challenging times and no, he is not perfect, but he is the perfect man for me.

Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate,
but through being the right mate.
~Barnett R. Brickner

Of all the great things about my husband, I truly appreciate his willingness to change.  His willingness to address underlying issues that may be causing difficulty in our marriage.  His acknowledgment that, as individuals, we will change over the years, but we must work to remain united.  Being the right mate, often times, does not come naturally, but requires sacrifice, compromise, communication, work......

I have shared THIS before, but I believe Andrew Peterson's song, Dancing In The Minefield's is as true a representation of marriage that can be achieved through song.

We went dancing in the minefields
We went sailing in the storm
And it was harder than we dreamed
But I believe that's what the promise is for

"I do" are the two most famous last words
The beginning of the end
But to lose your life for another I've heard
Is a good place to begin

'Cause the only way to find your life
Is to lay your own life down
And I believe it's an easy price

For the life that we have found

Samuel, I am glad I am Dancing in the Minefield's with you.  You are a wonderful man.  I am glad I am losing my life with you, in good times and bad......I love you!!!

beautiful photo - congrats on your anniversary!! thanks so much for sharing!! I love the song - i needed to hear this song. Hubby and I are walking through a mine field right now. I grew up in such a sheltered home I had no idea these mine fields existed, much less how to walk through them :) I needed to be reminded of God's promises in the storms, and to give Him my fear :)

Beautiful post friend. Marriage is not for the weak, but I haven't found anything else that God uses more to change us into more of who He desires we be. And I LOVE that song - we sing it most nights these days.
